Bisphenol A, also called BPA, Bisphenol A has been in the industry for the synthesis of polycarbonate (PC) and epoxy materials. Since the 1960s, it was used to make plastics (milk) bottles, suction cup with young children, food and beverage (milk) coating the inside of the tank. BPA is everywhere, from within the mineral water bottles, food packaging and medical equipment to the inside, has its shadow. Each year, the world production of 27 million tons of plastic containing BPA.

Recently, a study by the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) proved once again that, BPS (bisphenol S) - BPA is commonly used alternatives, can accelerate the destruction of embryonic development and the reproductive system. Research results published in the February 1 of "Endocrinology". The first study examined the effect of zoology BPA and BPS "critical brain cells and control the growth and function of reproductive organs gene" generated.

In this paper, the senior author, UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine professor of physiology, reproductive endocrinologist Nancy Wayne explains: "Our research shows that BPA substitute in the production of plastic products, is not necessarily safer."

The use of the zebrafish model, Wayne and her colleagues found that exposure to low levels of BPA and BPS-- equivalent traces found in river water pollution, rapid changes in physiological animal physiology embryonic within 25 hours. Wayne said: "The egg hatching time to speed up, resulting in premature fish when there are BPA or BPS, embryonic development is much faster than normal.."

UCLA research team, including first author Wenhui Qiu-- visiting graduate student from Shanghai University, chose the zebrafish, because of its transparent embryos allow us to "see" the growth of cells.

Green fluorescent protein labeling, the researchers tracked the fish reproductive endocrinology development of brain cells that controls puberty and fertility. In the second discovery, the research team found that an increase of 40 per cent of its endocrine neurons, suggesting that BPA may over-stimulate the reproductive system.

Wayne said:. "Development and control of post-reproductive life genes exposed to low levels of BPA to control reproduction of embryonic brain cells, affecting more significant we have seen many of the same effects BPS in BPA-free products are not .BPS victims. "Wayne doubt, adjusting breeding overstimulation of neurons, may lead to the destruction of precocious puberty and the reproductive system. Her lab plans to investigate this issue in future studies.

Wayne opened his first discovery on BPA in 2008, immediately dropped her home all plastic food containers, glass replaced. She and her family as much as possible to buy glass packaging foods and beverages. Wayne stressed: "Our findings are frightening, it is also important because zebra fish is the 'canary in the coal mine' water version."

Finally, the researchers were surprised to discover, BPA and BPS in part by estrogen functioning part of the system, in part by means of a thyroid hormone system exert their effect. Wayne said: "Most people think that BPA can mimic the effects of estrogen, but our work shows that it can also mimic the effects of thyroid hormones due to the significant influence of thyroid hormone during pregnancy on brain development, so our work for the average. embryonic and fetal development (including humans), has an important significance.
